ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chris Jordan an artist and photographer was born in 1963 and is based in Seattle, Washington. Jordans artwork is created from photographs of garbage and mass consumption because of his visit to an industrial yard to look at pattern of color and order, "a serendipitous technique”. His work while often unsettling contains a bold message about unconscious behaviors in our lives. FORMAL ANALYSIS The photographs jordan takes focus on concepts like consumerism and waste. Some of his photographs contain content of garbage in junkyards, and remains of coastal birds, displaying the plastic trash that is the contents of their stomach. He also uses a contrast of white and black colors along with bright old colors using plastic waste pieces he has found. CONTENT ANALYSIS Jordan’s work contains a strong message of society especial with the use of waste products. His photographs have his viewers asking questions and have many i would assume curious about why he photographs birds and the plastic content in their stomachs. He even has a photograph of cargo containers that brings out the beauty in something that we see daily. MY EXPERIENCE I appreciate Chris Jordan’s work, because his artwork brings up a major issue of plastic waste and in our society its a problem and he sheds some light on the issue. He has become successful with his artwork and within the art community and I do like his work.
